Writing a novel is a beast of a task. It follows, then, that coming up with how to conduct a workshop that gets you not just planning but DRAFTING your novel is a beast of a task as well. But we're doing it.
Make the best use of your spring with a clear-cut place where you can be productive, get words on the page, and connect with other creative minds who share the same goal as you. This workshop will meet for 3-hour sessions, but we will fill the time in between with:
INSTRUCTOR OFFICE HOURS. This is a space where you can come and ask a professional author any craft or industry questions that are on your mind. Stuck, unsure about where to take your character next? Thinking of two different paths for a story? Come talk!!!
WRITING SPRINT SESSIONS. These write-ins will take place over zoom and be a valuable space where you can write alongside others, commiserate, and share joy.
There will also be worksheets to help you unlock different parts of your story, lessons about how to approach different elements of fiction writing. weekly word count goals, and a support group Discord channel to vent into as you write. Your instructor, author Alanna Bennett, will be drafting her next book right alongside you!
YOU CAN GET THIS NOVEL DONE! If I can do it — and with raging ADHD — then so can you. You can help yourself by opting into a structure like this workshop, where you are supported, challenged, taught, and can get feedback on your work in real time. What part of your novel you workshop each session will be up to you; we'll give you a page limit and assign you into workshop groups that can help you discuss the chapter you're struggling with, your character journey, how to make your scenes more dynamic — whatever you need.
Think of this as a bespoke experience; that is our goal. Rest assured: Missing one lesson or a few of the office hours or sprints is not a huge deal! We will record lessons, and again: This class is about building something that works for YOU. Are you not in a US time zone? I can set up write-ins and office hours that work for you, too! Just let us know what you need.
ALSO: If you took part one of this course you are very welcome to keep going! No matter at what stage of your novel you are in, we welcome you using this space for community and accountability.
PAYMENT PLANS ARE AVAILABLE! AND BECAUSE THIS CLASS STARTS IN THE NEW YEAR, I'M ALSO HAPPY TO TALK ABOUT HOW TO SURPRISE A LOVED ONE WITH THE COURSE AS A GIFT!
